Mother Church

The Indian Orthodox Church is also known as Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, a Church founded by St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, who came to India in A.D. 52.
The Malankara Orthodox Church, as part of the Oriental Orthodox family of Churches, is in communion with the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Syrian Orthodox Church, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the Eritrean Orthodox Church. The Supreme Head of the church is the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan enthroned on the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas with headquarters at Devalokam, Kerala (India).
 
The present head of the Indian Orthodox church is H.H. Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose II.
The Church is divided into 25 dioceses with a bishop heading each diocese. The Malankara Syrian Association is the parliament of the Church which is a body of bishops and elected laity and clergy representatives from all the parishes. This Association meets on special occasions to take important decisions pertaining to the entire church.
 
 
Our church belongs to Chennai Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church  with its headquarters at Chennai .HG Dr Yuhanon Mar Dioscoros is the metropolitan of Chennai Diocese.
